ABOUT BDQHA

Approximately 15 years ago the Ballarat & District Western Performance Club was formed by a group of Western Performance enthusiasts. The club changed its name to Ballarat & District Quarter Horse Association (inc) about 9 years ago.

The main aim of the club is to promote the quarter horse breed in all facets of western performance. These include : Halter, Showmanship, Western Pleasure, Western Horsemanship, Trail, Reining, Western Riding, Hunter under Saddle & Hunt Seat, Equitation. These events are divided into sections for Youth, Amateur Owner & Improvers.

We are a competitor & spectator friendly club who welcome anyone who wishes to participate in any way. You do not have to own a Quarter horse to compete in any of the ridden events. We also have Halter classes for Appaloosa's, Paints and Unregistered horses.

We hold monthly "A" class shows at our home base - Ballarat Pony Club Grounds, Victoria Park, Ballarat. We also have trail rides, clinics and fun days. Our annual "AA" Show was moved to Werribee Park indoor Equestrian Centre in Feb. 2001 and was one of the largest shows held that year. Our 2002 & 2003 "AA" Shows were again held at Werribee, expanded to 2 days due to the very large number of competitors and horses. We again held our 2004 "AA" Show over 2 days at werribee, and this was a huge success, we hope this continues to show the enthusiasm of Quarter Horse owners.

Our Club members range from youth through to over 50s who all embrace the Western style of riding/competing. Amongst our membership ranks we have AQHA breeders, Trainers, Judges and members who also hold office on the Victorian Horse Associations.

If you have any queries about our club or the Western Horse Industry in general feel free to contact us and we will be happy to help in any way we can.
